Scotland's creative economy is a powerhouse – a powerhouse built on the backs of workers who are struggling to power their own homes.

Scotland’s creative industries contribute an estimated £5 billion and employs around 100,000 people. But too many of those workers—our freelancers members—are still facing late payments, unclear contracts, insecurity, bullying and harassment. Over 30 employers funded through Creative Scotland have already endorsed our Fair Work for Freelancers Checklist and you can to. 

We're calling on all organisations who receive Creative Scotland funds and employ freelancers, to adopt the STUC Fair Work for Freelancers Checklist as best practice. Clear contracts, job security and timely payment’s aren't ‘nice-to-haves'—they’re essential.
